Saray Iluminado is performing as a trio, deriving from Melbourne-based band SARAY Iluminado that specialises in Sevdah from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sephardic Jewish Music from the Balkans. Among Australian audiences, this ensemble is becoming known for its unique performances that straddle borders of music and story-telling. The European instalment is an all-female trio with each of the three musicians bringing a unique and dynamic perspective to the selected repertoire.
The singer, Nela is a Bosnian-born artist who continues to (re)articulate her ever-evolving bi-cultural history through her practice in folk music. The lauto player, Irine is one of the most prominent practitioners of music from Greece and Asia Minor in Australia. She is the artistic director of the ARIA award-winning ensemble the haBIBIS.
Kelly is a multi-instrumentalist whose passion for the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Balkan music has led
her to participate in a number of significant world music projects in Queensland and Victoria over the past decade.
