Sicily Folk Orchestra (SFO) is a project that includes ten stable musicians plus a couple of female guest vocalists. The focus is on Sicily, its rhythms, its songs, more often rearranged through the sounds of traditional instruments such as the bagpipe, the Jew’s harp, the tambourine, the mandolin, the accordion and the Sicilian friscalettu, reinforced thanks to the use of modern instruments like the guitar the electric bass, the drums, the flutes. Their goal is rediscovering, repurposing and promoting Sicilian musical traditions in a fully current and modern context.
SFO features some of the most talented islanders, multi-instrumentalists and singers, including members of the local group “i Beddi”, who recorded five CDs and toured across the world with the aim to spread the culture and traditions of Sicily in an unconventional folk version.
