Sicily Folk Orchestra (SFO) comprises of ten permanent musicians plus guest vocalists. The focus is on Sicily, its rhythms and its songs. Fresh musical arrangements seek to include the sounds of traditional instruments such as the bagpipes, Jew’s harp, tambourine, mandolin, accordion, and the Sicilian friscalettu; combined with and enhanced by more modern sounds like the guitar, electric bass, drums, and flute. The goal of this orchestra is rediscovering, repurposing and promoting Sicilian musical traditions in a modern context.SFO features some of the most talented islanders. They are multi-instrumentalists and singers, including members of the local group “i Beddi”, who have recorded five CDs and toured across the world spreading the culture and traditions of Sicily in a unique and unconventional style.
